I saw one of the most magnificent waterfalls that I have ever seen. It was surrounded by majestic rocks, and the mountain's charm did not hold back. Water gushed down as life beamed in delight all around it. Water roared and splashed. Birds of the air flew in awe. People watched in disbelief as they took in the centre piece of the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, West of Johannesburg.

Waterfall

The last time that I was taken aback by waterfalls was at the Lowveld National Botanical Garden in Nelspruit. There's also a waterfall at the Pretoria National Botanical Garden, but that is on a smaller scale. The Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden takes the waterfall feature to an elevated stance. It is grandeur.

Hike

Just when I thought that I had seen all that the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden had in store this January 2019; everything changed. We embarked on a gravel path, and the ascent began. We climbed at a rapid pace, and I panted all the way. I would have fainted had I not kept my ears on the raging waters that I would hear in the background.

"Visible" policing

The climb was a lonely one. At first, we barely saw anyone else hiking to the top. It feels unsafe because we did not see any security personnel and at times, like with our trail walk, it was secluded and isolated from the rest of the people. The hike though was without incident. Several times throughout the hike, I wanted to turn back because I expected more visible security. Perhaps it was just me being a little precautious.

In case of danger...

For help in times of need, having a first-aid medical kit (available from Amazon), a fully charged power bank, also known as a portable battery charger (available from Amazon), and a portable panic button with alarm (available from Amazon), can perhaps make a big difference.

"On top of the world"

When we did eventually reach the top, at the end of our hike at Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden... Wow! It was amazing. The view was breathtaking. It was emotional. We sat on the bench and reflected. It was silent. As we sat, we were so grateful for life and all else. We accidentally returned using another route and ended out hike at Eagle's Fare Restaurant and Wedding Venue

For unmatched hikes, educational walks in nature and a refreshing day out; Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden is the place to be. Remember to bring along sunscreen (available from Amazon)insect repellant (available from Amazon), and a digital camera (available from Amazon)
