Chicken Licken is a popular South African fast-food fried chicken restaurant chain. Perhaps I can compare it to KFC, the American fast food restaurant chain that specializes in fried chicken. While both brands are famous for their fried chicken, burgers and chips; Chicken Licken is a lot more spicier.

I was going through the blog's 2017 Press Kit and statistics when I noticed that the blog is rapidly gaining popularity amongst international readers who are based in USA, Canada, Germany, China, UK, India and so forth. I am also pleased to note that there is still a healthy dose of my fellow African based citizens who also love our Mother Land just as passionately.

This is encouraging because it shows that travel really does surpass geographical divides. We all look up to the sky and tread on earth, regardless of where in the world we may be. Traveling sets us free. It allows us to explore and truly be  a deeper part of our environment.

While talking to an international tourist at O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, she recently asked me what do my fellow South African countrymen and women like to eat on a regular day during lunch breaks, at taxi ranks, shopping malls and or just about anywhere when they wanted to have a takeaway meal.

I told her that we are a multi-cultural society and therefore eat a whole lot of different food. She then asked me, what local restaurant chain she could try which is popular and suitable for just grabbing a tasty bite when you randomly feel like eating out on a budget; the first answer that came to mind was Chicken Licken.

I have seen Chicken Licken stores packed to capacity in Sandton  as well as at taxi ranks. It is that one food that never disappoints. They are perhaps better known for their hotwings, original square slyders (tiny burgers) and [hot] SoulFire sauce. I ate the hotwings time and time again and they rightfully steal the show. On this occasion I also at their bigger burgers and they were also tasty.

If you like fried spicy chicken, then it may be worth your while to pop into Chicken Licken for some spicy hotwings. I am not a fan of the SoulFire sauce, but you don't need it as the food is tasty just as is. Those who like hot sauces may however enjoy it.
