I sat outside a safari tent and watched the stars. It was extremely cold, but downright breathtaking. Amadwala Lodge in Roodepoort, Johannesburg is a little santuary located a stonethrow away from the city. You get a sense that you are far away. It is like a retreat. I cannot describe how beautiful it is and their staff is exceptional in every way.

There are sculptures and African inspired visual artworks located throughout the premises. You just can't resist getting closer, touching the pieces, smelling the plants and flowers, breathing in the air and taking in the moment. It has a sensory appeal. I can't stop singing the praises of this place.

Even though I am generally not a camping (tent) fan, when I saw these safari tents with private toilets, shower and clean beds; I immediately made an online reservation to confirm the booking. One gets the tent experience along with the privacy and basic comforts that make this experience so much better.

We had initially wanted to have supper at the restaurant on the premises on Saturday night (22 April 2017), but opted to rather go out and find food elsewhere because there was a loud party/celebration of somekind near the establishment's reception which is located near the tents and chalets.

The music was extremely loud and continued throughout the night. It was like having a bash and bush retreat at the same time. We could not connect with nature or have a moment because of the nearby festivities. There were young and elderly guests on the premises who also had to endure the loud music and chit chats.

I don't know what time the party ended because we ended up falling asleep with the music ringing in the background. Although the bed looked awesome, one of the two single beds in the safari tent was really comfy, but the other bed had springs popping out that caused discomfort. Even with the bedding and blanket, it was a very cold night; so cold I resorted to sleeping in a fetul position to try and warm up.

Morning eventually came and the beauty of Amadwala Lodge overshadowed the noisy cold night. The breakfast was downright delicious and generous. The staff is just awesome and our waiter (Nkazi) showcased the most amazing customer care skills ever. All in all, it is beautiful, the staff is great and I would definitely go back again.
